Every morning, the morning paper and Bible verses to be transcribed were sent into the monastery.
Not a single person came to visit the Countess at the monastery, and her only means of contact with the world was the newspaper.
Thus, she naturally learned of the Count's affair. As soon as she saw the news, anger surged within her, and she wanted to leave the monastery immediately, but there was absolutely no way to escape.
If only someone, anyone, would get me out of here.
When she was desperately wishing for an impossible wish, Malea came.
[Sasha] "Y-You, how did you—"
[Malea] "I bribed an apprentice priest to get in. I will open the door with the key, so please come out quickly. If you do not leave now, you will be trapped here forever. Hurry!"
Throughout her stay in the monastery, the Countess had been grinding her teeth at Malea.
Because the sense of betrayal was too great. She had taken a lowly maid in as a personal maid, gifted her with piles of jewelry, and bestowed grace upon her.
To not even recognize your master and testify in favor of that damned lady-in-waiting? Such ungratefulness is unparalleled!
Therefore, if she followed her pride, she didn't want to follow Malea's suggestion.
[Malea] "Madam! You must come out and take revenge on Mrs. Becker! Do you intend to leave her be?"
But she ended up being swayed by those words. At least in that moment, she hated that couple far more than Malea.
Eventually, she climbed into the back of the wagon Malea had prepared.
However, her resentment must have remained, for as soon as the Countess got into the wagon, she slapped Malea's cheek.
[Sasha] "How dare you betray me? After how well I treated you!"
[Malea] "I made a mistake, Madam. It was true that I saw those earrings right before the ball, so I thought I simply had to tell the truth. I never knew things would blow up like that. Who knew Mrs. Becker would be so cunning?"
Even after being slapped, Malea knelt before the Countess and apologized first.
[Malea] "I just hope Madam absolutely does not lose to that Mrs. Becker. I will return this as a token of my apology. Because I am not qualified to possess it."
The Countess was of a character that didn't easily forgive once she held a grudge.
However, seeing Malea return even the Chappelle pearl hair ornament she had bestowed, teary-eyed with remorse, her heart softened a little.
No, in fact, what made the Countess generous was the terrible loneliness she felt throughout her time in the monastery.
Since being locked in the monastery, none of her subordinates had come to visit. How many weeks had it been since she had someone to talk to?
In the moment of despair that she might live isolated like this forever, she was frankly glad Malea reached out her hand.
[Sasha] "Alright, Malea. I will forgive you. For now, punishing Becker comes first."
The place they arrived at via wagon was Odenwald Port. And now, they were waiting for the Count's return like this.
Before long, a familiar sailing ship docked at the port, and a man disembarked first.
[Sasha] "Ulrichhhhhhh!"
Her shriek echoed through the port. The Count, intending to disembark quietly, was horrified to see her.
[Ulrich] "S-Sasha? You, why! Why are you here? How did you escape the monastery?"
Perhaps flustered by the Countess rushing at him as if to attack immediately, the Count poured verbal abuse on her.
[Ulrich] "How dare you disobey my order and leave the monastery without permission? Did you forget I warned you I would watch how much you reflected for a month? Since you broke the warning, know that you will be stuck in the monastery forever! Do you think that's all? Even that maid you cherished—"
But he couldn't continue speaking.
You seem to have noticed only now? That I didn't come alone?
Because reporters appeared in droves from behind her back.
[Ulrich] "Why are reporters here?"
His previous imposing manner gone, he could only mutter in a dumbfounded voice.
She snorted. Surely that remark contained the implication, "I came secretly to avoid reporters."
[Sasha] "I called them. Why? Ulrich, you son of a bitch."
Malea had advised the Countess in advance that to properly teach those two a lesson, how about gathering the capital's reporters?
The Countess visited the capital's newspaper companies one by one beforehand, informing them that the Count would arrive at Odenwald Port this afternoon. Of course, that information was also provided by Malea.
[Reporter] "Count! What do you think about the nickname 'Invisible Count'?"
[Reporter] "You just said 'stuck in the monastery.' Are you admitting that you didn't send the Countess to the monastery because she was mad?"
[Reporter] "The Countess even visited newspaper companies to reveal her feelings! We are curious about the Count's feelings, too! Of course, your lover's feelings as well!"
The Count shut his mouth tight.
The photo of the secret meeting in the Exotic Garden was taken just a few days ago. The trauma of that incident remained, yet he had to face reporters again.
As the Count stiffened, the reporters didn't miss the chance and surrounded the most talked-about figure of the year.
Meanwhile, the Countess aimed for her target.
[Sasha] "You dirty thief cat! How dare you touch someone else's property?!"
Grabbing the hair of Mrs. Becker, who was secretly disembarking separately.
[Becker] "Aaaah! What are you doing! Madam! I asked what you are doing!"
[Sasha] "I knew you would be like this. Little by little, stealing not just jewelry but knowing you'd steal other things too!"
The strength of the spiteful Countess was formidable.
[Becker] "Why, why are you doing this! Let go, I said let go! Calm down a bit!"
Far from saving his lover, the Count didn't even look toward Mrs. Becker. Just swallowing his humiliation in front of the reporters seemed overwhelming for him.
Ferdinand, preparing to disembark, clicked his tongue and decided to stay on the ship for a moment.
[Ferdinand] "Ha, really. What kind of mess is that? It's genuinely embarrassing..."
As a D-class Transcendent, saving his father from among the reporters would be very easy, but he felt no value in stepping forward.
Because he only realized now from the reporters' voices why the Count wanted to leave Athena Island so hurriedly.
He committed the embarrassing act himself, yet he got angry at me like a hypocrite?
The Count suddenly came to him at dawn and forcibly woke him, who was sleeping well.
Just because he said he wanted to stay on Athena Island longer, the Count screamed and even hit his head with a bottle.
Besides, fooling around with Mother's lady-in-waiting? There is a limit to being pathetic…
Sigh, even if you keep a mistress, shouldn't you match at least a minimum of class?
He thought only the Countess, who came from commoner origins, was vulgar. He shook his head back and forth.
Ferdinand already had experience being bashed by the press as a "trash soldier." Knowing the persistence of reporters, he didn't want to join in there and be humiliated together.
[Ferdinand] "Let's go down a bit later, Odette."
[Odette] "Yes. Brother."
So he willingly ignored his father and looked after only Odette.
In the meantime, the Countess succeeded in completely grabbing her lady-in-waiting's hair.
[Becker] "Do you lack even minimum refinement? Acting without refinement despite being a Countess!"
It was the moment Mrs. Becker waved her hand in defense.
[Sasha] "You, what is that on your hand? What is that!"
Her voice became even shriller.
[Sasha] "What is that on your ring finger? Why are you wearing my wedding ring? Something I lost more than five years ago, why do you have it?"
The moment she saw the ring, her eyes completely flipped. The strength of her grip was also to the extent that a sane person could never overcome.
Mrs. Becker, her hair grabbed, swayed helplessly.
[Sasha] "My jewelry, my dresses! And after stealing even my husband! You treated me like a crazy woman?"
Holding Mrs. Becker's hair, the Countess pushed her toward the pier. In an instant, Mrs. Becker was driven precariously to the edge of the dock. One wrong step and she was on the verge of falling into the sea.
[Becker] "N-No! The seawater is cold! Don't drop me!"
[Sasha] "After stealing everything from others, what makes your body so precious that you protect it? Die! Just fall into the seawater and die!"
It was the moment she was about to push her into the sea. Mrs. Becker screamed in a resounding voice.
[Becker] "Aaaah! Someone save me! I am pregnant!"
At those words, her hand paused.
[Sasha] "W-What did you say?"
She was not the only one who stopped moving. The Count was surrounded by reporters gathered at the port. Even Ferdinand and Odette were looking down from the railing on the ship.
Because every single one of them turned their heads toward Mrs. Becker without exception.
