[Tree] "Wake up, Odette."

At someone's call, she opened her eyes and sat up.

This place... is the space in my dreams I always see.

However, unlike usual, not a single hornet existed. With the hornets gone, the vastness of this space stood out.

Perhaps because of that, she felt isolated in the middle of an endlessly stretching desert.

Looking at the distant horizon, she leaned on the tree beside her to stand up. Then, as she looked up at the tree, she was startled. The appearance of that massive tree was completely different from what she remembered.

When did it become so full of flower buds...?

The last image of this tree she remembered had only a single flower bud sprouting. Now, it was densely packed with light pink buds. As if ready to bloom fully at any moment.

[Odette] "Was it you who called me?"

Feeling somehow that this tree had called her, she spoke to it, but no answer returned.

What am I doing right now...? There's no way a tree would answer.

Just as she made an awkward expression, a static chi-ji-jik sound reached her ears. Along with it, a cracked status window she had seen sometime ago appeared.

[Retrying Status Window Activation...]

[Activation Successful!]

[You can use the Status Window in Odette's 'Inner World'!]

Inner World?

She furrowed her brow at the familiar term.

Isn't that a concept that exists only for Purifiers? Why does it describe it as my Inner World?

At that moment, the blinking status window displayed new text with a chi-jik sound.

[Hello, Odette?]

She could intuitively tell from the tone.

[Finally, you]

[have awakened.]

That the one sending this message was the existence that had been speaking to her through the status window until now.

[Odette] "Who are you? Who are you to speak to me—"

[Status Window]

[That is not important.]

[What matters is the fact that the moment of awakening has finally come to you. Now the First Miracle will begin.]

Awakening?

Before she could understand the meaning of those words, she felt heat rising throughout her entire body.

[Status Window]

[I can no longer speak to you. Because the Inner World of an awakened Purifier is flawless.]

[Remember only this, Odette. What you possess is the clearest thing.]

[Odette] "What are you talking about?"

Surely not.

Awakening... Inner World...

Those words pointed to a single fact.

That she had awakened as a Purifier.

But Odette, unable to accept it at all, shook her head.

No. There is no way I am a Purifier. That is impossible. I am a fake Purifier. It was so in the game, and so in my past life—

But her thoughts couldn't continue. All the flower buds on the massive tree began to bloom simultaneously. As if they had been waiting only for this moment, the buds unfurled their petals all at once and bloomed fully.

A dizzying scent of peach blossoms rose, and Kugugugugugung—, the desert began to shake. It felt as if a massive earthquake had occurred.

But it was not the ground that was shaking. It was the massive tree.

Kugugugugung.

The vibration and noise intensified. It felt as if this entire space would collapse right now. Along with it, an immense amount of water began to surge from the tree's roots.

Swaaaaaaa.

Even though water was merely pouring out from the tree, the speed at which it swelled was excessively fast. Because of that, it felt like a massive tsunami was rushing in.

Odette stared blankly at that disaster-like spectacle.

Swaaaaaaa—.

The rapidly rising water swept over her. Because the water filled up to her head height in an instant, she reflexively held her breath.

Just as she thought, Am I going to drown like this?

[Tree] "You can't die here. Because you are the sole owner of this space."

The voice that had awakened her earlier was heard again. As she had initially intuited, it seemed correct that the voice belonged to the tree.

It was as the tree said. Even though she held her breath, the water was making her breathe.

Breathing was natural even underwater. No, the respiration was far more refreshing and lighter than breathing actual air. Every time water entered through inhalation and exited through exhalation, her body became cleaner and lighter.

Why on earth? Why now of all times...

However, contrary to her body becoming lighter with each breath, her heart only sank deeper and deeper. Because every time she became aware that she was a Purifier, she felt more miserable.

The tree sent forth more water, more fiercely. The water, filling the space and rising to touch the sky, took on a deep teal hue like the deep sea.

Even knowing this water was different from actual seawater, Odette felt as if she were trapped in a real deep sea.

Why have I become a Purifier only now...?

It felt that distant, that hopeless.

How wonderful it would be if she were a real Purifier.

How wonderful if she could be useful to her family.

How wonderful if she could alleviate the suffering of the Transcendents.

Those were things she had wished for so desperately in her past life. She had dreamed of them for a foolishly long time, knowing they would never come true.

How insignificant the actual self had become compared to those dreams. How much she had hated herself while dreaming those dreams.

How much frustration did she need until she came to genuinely not want what she had genuinely wanted?

Only now I realized that I don't desire it anymore...

Now that the word "Purifier" had become completely worthless to her, how could...

Can fate toy with me this much?

She felt a sense of humiliation.

She looked resentfully at the water that continued to rise and rise.

They say all Purifiers feel the greatest happiness and joy at the moment of awakening.

She felt neither joy nor happiness at all.

Viktor was covered in blood from tearing apart the calamities that had suddenly occurred in the capital.

Spitting out a fragment of a calamity that had entered his mouth, Ptui—, Viktor furrowed his brow at the subordinate who had just finished speaking.

[Viktor] "What kind of bullshit is that?"

[Subordinate] "I'm telling you it's true! That villainess—. Ah, no. I apologize. It became a habit."

The subordinate, continuing his words, startled at Viktor's fierce gaze and corrected himself, Oops.

[Subordinate] "I'm telling you that excellent and perfect person, Lady Odette, was really working at the hospital!"

[Viktor] "You stupid son of a bitch. Not knowing your place, you dare see hallucinations of my darling?"

Viktor pulled his glaive from his back with a fierce expression.

[Subordinate] "I-It's true!"

[Viktor] "Don't you know my darling is a noble? Why would she be there? Unless you bastard are having dirty imaginations about my darling—"

It was at that moment. An immensely ecstatic fragrance pierced his sense of smell intensely.

[Viktor] "This is my darling's scent?"

However, the scale of it was overwhelming, incomparable to what he remembered. A fragrance whose class and depth were different even compared to what he had smelled at the Imperial Palace some time ago.

If that time was a stream of water, now it felt like being in the middle of a raging ocean.

[Viktor] "Huh? What is this? Are there peach blossoms nearby? Why do I suddenly smell flowers?"

He, entranced by the scent, flinched at his subordinate's words and looked down at him.

[Viktor] "You can feel this scent too?"

[Subordinate] "Yes? Yes... But it is a flower scent, right? It feels somewhat holy? Like I feel awe."

The subordinate tilted his head, wearing an expression as if he had received grace.

Originally, only Transcendents should be able to smell a Purifier's scent, so how can an ordinary person smell it?

Something extraordinary was happening to his darling. Intuiting this, Viktor began to run toward the source of the scent.

Arriving at the Rothbart River like that. An incredible scene was unfolding there.

Odette, dressed like a nurse, collapsed by the riverbank. And a sea of light was spreading out centered on her.

[Viktor] "This... what in the..."

Pure white light was spreading around her, undulating like waves. And the river touched by the light was turning very clear.

The light reaching the Rothbart River covered the entire river water, advanced to the village, and eventually covered the entire capital.

Even he, who had lived as a beast of God, shuddered at such a miracle of God for the first time. Overwhelmed by that wonder.

It seemed Viktor wasn't the only one who felt that way; people of the capital who discovered the light were flocking here, marveling at the sea of light.

Toward the center of the light, which had created a distant miracle.
