KFBRV Pt 2 Ch 70

The weight of divine knowledge pressed down on Rosaline. The moment she woke from the revelation, the branch in her hand crumbled into ash. She grabbed a single fruit that had fallen to the floor.

When she returned to the bedroom, Hannah lay curled on the ivory bed.

[Rosaline] "Hannah. Why aren't you sleeping?"

[Hannah] "Rosaline. Help me……"

With sunken eyes, Hannah begged her friend.

[Hannah] "The water in my awakening dream keeps vanishing. I can't find a single drop of purification power. Only those strange hornets fill the fountain—"

She mumbled incoherently, her voice thick with desperation.

Of course they do.

Rosaline thought of Mengele, the herb smelling of artificial roses. Though it looked like medicine, its core was a curse. It squeezed a person like a dry rag, stealing every last drop of their life force.

[Hannah] "My body hurts so much. I feel like I'm boiling one moment, then itchy the next, as if bugs are crawling over my skin."

Considering the cruelty of the Jar-curse, Hannah had lasted quite a long time—an entire month.

Rosaline spoke to the girl who clung to her like a lifeline.

[Rosaline] "Hannah. People say bees are messengers of God, don't they? Did you perhaps make a mistake? Did you do something to earn the World Tree's hatred?"

She had already stolen every drop of Hannah's purification power. She had no reason to be kind anymore.

Using the Mengele on Hannah now is a waste.

Han Suwan would reincarnate in the distant future. Until then, Rosaline needed to scrape together every bit of purification power from the other priests’ dreams—whether it was the size of a fish tank or a bathtub.

[Hannah] "I…… didn't really……"

[Rosaline] "Think hard, Hannah. Honestly, did you really make no mistakes? Can you swear to Heaven that you didn't do anything wrong?"

Her voice dripped with annoyance. Tears rolled down Hannah's cheeks.

[Hannah] "I did think about bread for a moment during prayer because I was hungry……"

Despair filled Hannah's face as she began to blame herself.

She is annoying to listen to. Should I just get rid of her?

Rosaline wanted to test the power of the Calamity. She needed to know if it was as magnificent as the World Tree had shown her.

Until now, Transcendents never had to use their powers beyond the limits set by God. Therefore, the concept of "pollution levels" didn't exist. Mankind lived in peace even without Purifiers.

But the future shown by the World Tree was different. Once the Calamity appeared, the beasts of god would push Transcendents to use their powers beyond their limits. They would endure soaring pollution levels until the moment they lost control and went berserk.

I want to see it for myself. I want to know if Purifiers will really be worshiped more than Transcendents once the Calamity begins.

Rosaline breathed life into the seed in her hand and opened the Calamity. A small black hole formed in the air. She fled the bedroom immediately.

That night, the Grand Temple collapsed. Yet, only two people died: the High Priest and Hannah.

People whispered about the miracle. They called it the "First Calamity." They claimed it was a blessing that such an unprecedented disaster only took two lives. They said every priest would have died if Priestess Rosaline hadn't risked her life to lead the evacuation.

By the time people grew used to the existence of Calamities, Rosaline performed another masterpiece using the stolen power of the priests. She acted the part of a miraculous Saintess who could raise Transcendents from their sickbeds.

She was no longer a Purifier chosen by God, but no one could tell the difference. A scent of roses—something only Transcendents could sense—always drifted from her.

The Transcendents loved Rosaline. She wasn't purifying them; she was polluting and numbing their inner beasts, but they couldn't see the truth. Since she was the only Purifier for a very long time, she became the standard.

Transcendent warriors craved her like addicts. Those who fell in love with her willingly offered her their hearts.

The corpses of Transcendents and Purifiers became fertilizer for the World Tree. More tragedy. More corruption. More darkness. Calamities grew in clusters upon the World Tree beneath the deep sea.

The Kingdom unified into an Empire. The Temple became a Cathedral. Calamities became a normal part of human life. Throughout those long years, Rosaline lived a satisfying life.

Now, she wanted only one thing: to kill Han Suwan and claim eternal life.

What…… is this?

Odette regained consciousness. A status window hovered before her eyes.

[The Master of the Status Window has confirmed ‘Charlotte's Truth’!]

[Zion] "Odette, are you okay?"

He held her, checking her pale face. But she couldn't focus on his embrace or his voice. She could only stare at Charlotte—no, Rosaline—outside the sphere.

The woman watched Odette from the deep sea with a relaxed expression.

Mengele. That was Rosaline's doing, too……?

Because Odette had experienced Rosaline's memories, the woman felt even more repulsive.

You created this tragedy just because you didn't want to lose your sense of superiority? How could a human do this?

[The Eyes of 『 』 continue to apply to the ‘Master of the Status Window.’]

Thanks to the eyes provided by the system, Odette saw things that were usually hidden.

She saw the Kraken, tied to Rosaline and dragged along like a ghost. It was a dark, distorted shape, like a mass of black oil. It looked exhausted, its head and limbs melting away after centuries of exploitation by Rosaline.

The S-class Transcendent who hosted the Kraken ended up loving Rosaline.

In this world, Transcendents offered their hearts to those they loved. They gave away their hearts, which acted as the reins to control their inner supernatural beasts.

[100% Affection reached! Johan has fallen into ‘Perfect Love’ with you.]

[The <Johan Route> True Ending is available.]

[Johan's ‘Heart’ is granted as a reward!]

[You can now use Johan's supernatural power as if you are its owner.]

The heart was the only way to control the violent beast of god living inside the body. Without those reins, a Transcendent faced a rebellion from their own beast at any moment. Yet, Transcendents who truly fell in love willingly handed over their hearts.

Supernatural power always prioritizes the protection of the one holding the reins. It shifts its focus from the host's body to the person the host loves.

Since a Transcendent's heart could regenerate, removing it didn't kill them. However, once they gave away the jewel-shaped reins, they could never take them back.

The moment the other person swallowed that jewel, total control transferred to them. The beast remained inside the Transcendent, but the power belonged to the master of the heart.

There is only one way a Kraken survives after its host dies.

It only happens if the Transcendent's own power kills them. If they died of natural causes, a berserk state, or in battle, the power would die with the body. Only if the beast tore the Transcendent apart from the inside and escaped could it survive alone.

Rosaline killed the Transcendents as soon as she got the reins. She has been using their power as her own ever since.

Odette could easily guess how many Transcendents had been torn apart in that horrific way. She saw dozens of hearts Rosaline had swallowed, glowing clearly in her sight.

[Filtering outside sounds to allow necessary information through.]

Rosaline met Odette's eyes through the barrier. She pulled a fruit from her sleeve. Unlike the shriveled fruits on the World Tree, this one looked like a lush, ripe peach.

That is—

Odette's face turned white.

[Rosaline] "Do you see this, Odette? This is Malea's life force."

Malea's face, not an infant's, hung upon the fruit. The fruit screamed in Malea's voice.

[Fruit] "No! No! No!"

She took a bite. As she chewed and swallowed with a loud crunch, her elderly skin instantly became smooth and tight. The sight made Odette's skin crawl.

Rosaline…… she is nothing more than a disgusting monster now.

Odette fought the urge to gag. She kept her eyes on Rosaline. If she showed pain, Rosaline would only enjoy it.

That's why people sucked into the Calamity turn into shriveled mummies.

The Calamity absorbed their life force and turned it into fruit. Countless people died just to grant this woman eternal life.

[Odette] "Rosaline."

She flinched as Odette spoke her true name.

[Odette] "Your greed is vile. You should have died long ago, yet you live by feeding on others."

Don't panic. Don't look away.

That fruit wasn't the real Malea; it was just her life force. If she killed Rosaline here, she could save Malea.

But how? How can I do it?

She couldn't think of a way to defeat a monster that had lived for centuries—a monster that had swallowed so many hearts.

At that moment, Johan's voice came from behind her.

[Johan] "Odette."

His warm hand pressed something into hers. It was the blue jewel—the reins of power that belonged in his heart.
