The Result of the Phase 1 Paternity Test

Sierra wondered why the Head Maid looked so happy. She shook her head and answered.

[Sierra] "No, what is it?"

[Lexel] "Well......"

The Head Maid hesitated before the words tumbled out.

[Lexel] "I heard the paternity test results will be ready tomorrow. Since you were heading to the doctors' annex, I thought you already knew......"

[Sierra] "Really?"

She clasped her hands and shouted dramatically.

[Sierra] "That is the best news I have heard lately!"

Perfect. If things go well, I can leave this castle tomorrow!

Meanwhile, Ezel reported to the Princess regarding Sierra and began his investigation into Hanael. To him, these actions flowed as naturally as water. Only one thing disrupted his rhythm.

[Abel] "Who are you?"

A young boy with blue, wavy hair appeared. They stood in a back alley near the Duke's estate, a place close to the slums.

Ezel lifted his chin and asked with forced elegance.

[Ezel] "Who are you?"

He frowned at the bright blue hair. The puppy-like man facing him, Abel, twisted his face into an equally fierce scowl. This boy acted tough, though it looked awkward on his friendly face.

Ezel studied the familiar features. Before he could place the face, Abel spoke without an introduction.

[Abel] "Why are you hanging around Sierra and Hanael?"

He realized his charm wouldn't work on Abel. He smirked and tilted his head.

[Ezel] "You must be a knight."

[Abel] "......I'm not."

Ezel stared into the round, golden eyes and laughed.

[Ezel] "Relax. I am not a bad person."

Abel scratched his temple. The man before him lacked any obvious scent of evil, yet he carried a heavy pressure that made him difficult to approach. It felt as if several magic circles protected the space around him.

He watched Ezel's retreating figure and rubbed his chin.

[Abel] "He looks like someone......"

I should contact Sierra.

He ruffled his sky-blue hair and grinned. He had hesitated to reach out because the Great Archmage's absence usually triggered Sierra's anger, but now he had a lead.

Despite his caution, his heart throbbed with excitement at the thought of seeing Sierra again.

But that man...... he looks like someone I know.

Abel left the alley, still unable to find the answer.

Late that night, Sierra spent a happy evening rolling around on the bed with Hanael when Abel's letter arrived. A raven flew through the window to deliver it. Sierra broke the wax seal and stiffened as she read the suspicious contents.

Sister. I caught a strange guy hanging around you. He didn't react to 'Truth Magic,' so he is very suspicious.

Also...... about the Great Archmage. I think I found her. A raven reported she is on the outskirts of the capital! I did well, right?

Sierra wanted to kiss Abel for the news.

Is my sister performing a request on the outskirts of the capital?

Questions piled up like heavy snow. Sierra sighed and clenched her fists at the thought of her sister.

You're right outside the capital, so why haven't you come to see me? Are you even human......?

She ground her teeth in rage, but a more urgent problem remained. She read the first paragraph of the letter again and clicked her tongue.

[Sierra] "......Why are there so many suspicious people?"

Her sister's enemies were likely trying to attack her. Without Cassius or the Duke's protection, moving around would have been dangerous.

The letter turned to ash and vanished the moment she set it on the table. She let out a short sigh.

It makes me nervous that my sister hasn't appeared yet.

She suspected Cassius' feelings for her ran deep. Surely he would grant a request for protection magic.

I'll ask him for a protection spell when I leave.

Sierra hummed and buried her face in the bed. Hanael poked her cheek.

[Hanael] "What are you doing?"

[Sierra] "I got a letter saying your mama wants to see you."

[Hanael] "......Really?"

Doubt and curiosity filled Hanael's large green eyes. Sierra smoothed the hair of the clever five-year-old and answered firmly.

[Sierra] "Of course. Have I ever lied to you?"

[Hanael] "Hmm......."

She puffed out her cheeks and buried her face in Sierra's chest.

[Hanael] "You lie about not being my mama."

[Sierra] "......That is not a lie, Hanael."

She decided to find her sister as soon as possible. Staying here might hurt Hanael's emotional growth.

The paternity test results are coming soon, so it isn't an emergency.

She hugged Hanael tight and hummed. A pleasant feeling bloomed in her heart—a sense that everything would work out.

That night, the doctors returned to the annex after checking the paternity test kits for errors. The twins noticed the note in the basket and gasped.

[Twins] "No way......"

They hid the note from their teacher and hurried inside. In a small, private room, they unfolded Sierra's message.

—It is Amolta disease. For Amolta disease, you must use herbs mixed with purple iris and ground thorns from a blue rose. The patient is likely a woman in her 40s, highly sensitive and nervous. If I am right, let me see the patient. She might be terminal.

Their eyes widened. Every condition Sierra predicted matched perfectly.

[Lanya] "She couldn't possibly know who the patient is, right?"

Shock left them speechless.

[Kilo] "So this is Lady Sierra's 'real' prescription?"

[Lanya] "Amolta disease......"

The twins looked at each other.

[Kilo] "I saw the patient myself, but I never imagined that disease."

[Lanya] "Diagnosing someone without seeing them usually leads to errors. There is a high chance she is wrong."

They sank into thought.

[Lanya] "We aren't certain, so let's test with an Amolta kit first."

[Kilo] "If it is Amolta...... it is incurable."

[Lanya] "But she even wrote the prescription here."

Curiosity burned in their eyes. As they huddled over the note in admiration, a stern voice thundered.

[Hentel] "What are you two whispering about?"

The twins bit their lips, startled by their teacher's harsh tone.

[Hentel] "The Phase 1 paternity test must proceed without a single error. You are also responsible for the Marchioness' health."

[Twins] "Ah, yes."

[Teacher] "Do your duty faithfully. Carry your sense of duty as doctors every single second."

[Twins] "We understand, Master!"

After a lecture that almost brought them to tears and another recital of their oath, they finally finished the paternity test.

They entered the data into the recording sphere, checked the final mana wave, and wrote the result on the form by hand. Because of the sensitivity, every movement was recorded.

They finished with proud smiles. They hoped their test kit would bring light to this family.

Early the next morning, the Head Maid knocked. Sierra, who had fallen asleep hugging Hanael, yawned.

[Sierra] "What is it?"

The Head Maid entered with an expression so grim that she looked like she was announcing a death. Sierra rubbed her eyes, still lying on the soft bedding.

[Sierra] "Why that face......"

[Lexel] "Finally, the moment we have waited for......"

Sierra held her breath. She gripped the white sheets.

[Lexel] "The paternity test results are here."

Sierra's eyes snapped open. She knew they were coming, but she didn't expect them this early! She decided to respect the doctors' speed and whispered dramatically.

[Sierra] "Really? It says he isn't the father?"

[Lexel] "That is......"

The Head Maid looked confused, suggesting she hadn't seen the final answer yet. Sierra stared at her, suppressing her racing heart.

[Lexel] "I have orders to bring Lady Sierra to the annex. The Grand Madam and the Duke are already waiting."

This early...... everyone is so busy.

Sierra nodded. She tucked the blanket around the sleeping Hanael and stood up.

[Sierra] "I feel a bit sad and relieved at the same time."

[Lexel] "I will help you change into a simple dress. Today is an important day."

On the way to the dressing room, Sierra let out a small laugh, filled with deep emotion.

This is finally the end.

Her time being treated like nobility would end today.

Sierra changed her clothes, thinking the whole event was a rather pleasant accident.
