In Search of the Birth Secret
Her jaw dropped at the sheer absurdity. No words escaped her lips. Several suspicious factors crossed her mind, but one stood above the rest.
These doctors—no, these hacks—must be quacks.
Sierra scanned the room. Everyone except her placed absolute trust in the test kit's results. She cleared her throat and spoke with a stutter.
[Sierra] "So......"
All eyes were fixed on her moving lips. They waited for her next words with the reverence of cardinals listening to a high priest. Everyone focused solely on her. Yet, the words refused to flow.
This is madness...... How do I even explain this?
The reason was simple.
She isn't my daughter, yet they claim she is! This makes no sense!
Panic gripped Sierra. Seeing her struggle to speak, Cassius questioned her in a low voice.
[Cassius] "......Meaning?"
Sierra's mind raced. The Grand Madam held her hand with a warm expression. Cassius watched her with intense gravity. The elderly Hentel and the twins, Lanya and Kilo, looked at her with pity.
Sierra carefully pulled her hand away from the Grand Madam and calculated the possibilities.
Common sense says this is impossible! Is it Cassius? Did he bribe them?
[Sierra] "I have a question."
She tried to hide her suspicion by steadying her trembling voice.
[Sierra] "Did you, by any chance...... receive money?"
She tried to be subtle, but her weightiest theory involved the doctors being either incompetent or bought.
Recalling the heavy affection Cassius showed her recently, a faint doubt surfaced—perhaps he would have kept her here even if the results had been negative.
Cassius doesn't have the personality to bribe people, but the world is a strange place.......
Cassius was a man of integrity, not the type to buy results. If these people were quacks or liars, she would force them to drink a truth potion and confess.
Sierra's eyes glinted with a dark intent.
[Hentel] "We agreed to receive a small fee for our services. However, this result is genuine."
The doctors proved to be tough opponents.
Facing this bizarre reality, Sierra desperately needed time alone. She decided to challenge the effectiveness of the paternity kit these quacks—no, doctors—had created.
[Sierra] "May I check that kit myself?"
[Cassius] "Sierra."
[Sierra] "......Huh? Oh, yes?"
[Cassius] "This is only the first phase. Two more remain. So...... I don't fully believe it yet."
She tried to agree. She prepared to nod vigorously while looking into his eyes, but she stopped.
Cassius, words mean nothing when you look like you're about to cry!
The test kit, developed by authoritative doctors, held over 80% accuracy. It made sense for him to suspect Hanael was his biological child.
Across the room, the Grand Madam already dabbed at her eyes with a handkerchief.
[G. Madam] "How much you must have suffered, dear Sierra......."
[Sierra] "Well, actually......."
No matter how much she insisted she hadn't suffered, they clearly wouldn't believe her. She gave a hollow, stunned laugh.
[G. Madam] "I cared for you before, but now I will protect you properly."
The paternity test began as a way to prove Hanael was not Cassius' daughter. Instead, it had turned suspicion into conviction.
Sierra glared at the doctors as they prepared to hand over the samples.
I can't let this continue!
[Sierra] "I need to speak with the doctors."
[G. Madam] "Oh? What is it, Sierra?"
She looked at the Grand Madam, then at Hentel, and spoke with firm emphasis.
[Sierra] "I need to talk to them alone for a moment."
A serious conversation was undeniably necessary.
After a struggle to calm the sensitive Cassius and the emotional Grand Madam, Sierra finally secured a private meeting with the doctors.
[G. Madam] "Child, I will give you the world."
[Sierra] "You don't need to give me the world...... just please calm down."
[G. Madam] "Sierra, you are upset. Let's rest."
[Sierra] "No. I am not upset. I am very calm right now."
She had worked hard to soothe the Grand Madam and ignore Cassius' reddened eyes.
Finally, she was alone with the three doctors. Lanya and Kilo watched her with sparkling eyes.
She met their gaze with a cold stare. She felt certain. Utterly certain. These people were definitely quacks.
She glared at them as if ready to grab their collars.

[Sierra] "Listen. I need to examine that paternity kit."
Her eyes burned with intensity.
[Sierra] "I can't trust your words."
A faint surprise registered in the twins' eyes. Sierra found it strange that they didn't look angry about her doubting their medical skills. Instead, Kilo replied with a gentle, curious voice.
[Kilo] "This is the first time a patient has doubted our ability!"
Sierra hadn't expected them to be happy about it. She felt a bit awkward.
Lanya added kindly.
[Lanya] "Since this isn't the Hippo Kingdom...... feel free to check the kit yourself."
[Sierra] "Show me."
She decided to start by examining the Phase 1 kit they had brought.
A few hours later, after locking herself in her room and investigating the device, Sierra slumped forward and buried her face in her hands.
These people are actually geniuses.......
She let out a heavy sigh. Only one option remained: force them to drink a truth potion and proceed with the Phase 2 test.
I'll argue that the kit has errors because it's a beta version.
She summoned the doctors, crossed her legs, and spoke with an arrogant air.
[Sierra] "I want you to drink a truth potion and swear that this kit is functional."
The potion forced the drinker to speak only the truth. The doctors, familiar with the substance, shrugged with confused faces.
[Hentel] "I apologize, but the three of us have already taken truth potions."
[Sierra] "I want you to drink the one I made specifically for this."
She gestured toward the table. Three pairs of vials, each the size of an index finger, sat there. The truth potion she had specially crafted was ten times more powerful than standard versions.
Kilo, Lanya, and Hentel nodded, their eyes gleaming.
[Kilo] "How fascinating. I have never seen a green truth potion before."
They grabbed the vials and swallowed the liquid without hesitation. Their lack of doubt and curious eyes showed their nature as scholars.
Sierra swallowed hard and watched them. She knew the potion's effect activated the moment it hit their throats. She cleared her throat.
[Sierra] "Now, tell me about the paternity kit."
[Hentel] "We poured our hearts into creating this kit and conducted numerous clinical trials. I swear on my authority as a scholar that it has no flaws."
[Lanya] "Of course, minor errors are possible......."
[Kilo] "......But the Phase 2 test will provide proper confirmation."
Listening to them, Sierra buried her face in her hands and sank into deep thought.
They genuinely believe in their kit. At this point, no one can clear my name except my sister.
She could wait two months for the next phase, but...
If they spat out such nonsense in Phase 1, how can I trust the next result?!
It was common knowledge that Phase 2 was more reliable than Phase 1, and Phase 3 was the most accurate of all. However, rather than waiting until her neck grew long from anticipation for an uncertain result, finding her sister and clearing the air seemed better.
[Sierra] "Fine. Let's proceed with the Phase 2 test for now."
[Hentel] "Understood."
They bowed to her. Hentel and Kilo left first, while Lanya stayed behind to wink at Sierra.
[Lanya] "Ah, Lady Sierra."
[Sierra] "Yes."
[Lanya] "I checked your note."
Sierra started to ask what note, then stopped. It clearly concerned the Amolta disease patient.
Before she could say a word, Lanya gave a playful smile and walked out. As the door slammed shut, a realization struck Sierra.
Come to think of it, if I watch them treat a real patient, I can prove they are incompetent. That would automatically cast doubt on the paternity kit.
Sierra glared at the closed door and ground her teeth.
To prove Hanael wasn't her daughter, she had to either prove the doctors were quacks or bring her sister here.
Until now, she had supported her sister Amille's independent lifestyle. Even when misunderstood, she respected her sister's wishes and didn't look for her. But...
[Sierra] "Sister......."
This was an emergency.
Alone in the room, Sierra spoke in a grim whisper.
[Sierra] "You told me to use my skills to the fullest? I will."
Her sister, the Great Archmage Amille, had made one mistake. Amille was the second-in-command of the Great Magic Tower, but Sierra was a genius of pharmacy. And medicine had a much wider range of use than Amille thought.
Since it has come to this, I have no choice but to grab my sister by the hair and drag her here to prove it.
She gripped her fists and gave a dark, cunning smile.
First, I'll find her and make her confirm if the father has any connection to the Ideos family.
Methods to prove her innocence flashed through her mind. She stood up and headed for the door.
